Behaviour

If your dog’s behaviour worries you or is affecting his or your quality of life, you could benefit from a behaviour consultation.

You might be fed up of muttering embarrassed apologies as your dog barks and lunges at yet another dog; or upset that you can’t leave him home alone without coming back to a scene of destruction and complaints from the neighbours about the howling.

Behaviour problems I can help you with include:

  • Aggression towards other dogs or people
  • Separation distress
  • Fearful behaviour (e.g. towards people, traffic, other animals, noise)
  • ‘Resource’ guarding (e.g. bed, food bowl, toys)
  • Repetitive behaviours (e.g. spinning, tail-chasing, ‘fly-catching’)

These kinds of problems need more than ‘obedience’ training. They usually stem from emotions your dog is feeling such as anxiety, frustration or fear. Because of this, consultations are much more in depth, because we need to establish why your dog is behaving this way before we can begin to make changes to how he feels.

Before beginning any behaviour work, you will be asked to get a referral from your vet. This is because some behaviour problems are caused or made worse by underlying medical issues, so it makes sense to rule out or resolve these first.

If you would like to discuss your dog’s behaviour further to determine the right course of action for you, contact me today to arrange a call!
